The Crust

DE EN

"Its lunar market is a brilliant twist, its finish is not."

About

You are the manager of a new lunar colony, tasked with exploiting the moon's resources for a desperate Earth. This involves setting up automated factories, mining for regolith and other materials, and managing the needs of your colonists. Success is not just about building a sprawling base, but about turning a profit by fulfilling time-sensitive contracts for rival Earth-based corporations. The game features a full story campaign with choices that influence your relationship with these factions and the ultimate fate of your enterprise.

Verdict

The Crust successfully stakes its claim on the moon by making you a contractor, not just an engineer. Fulfilling contracts for a volatile Earth market provides a compelling economic puzzle that gives every conveyor belt a purpose. While its factory systems are not as deep as the genre's titans, the business simulation is a strong substitute. However, the game's orbit is wobbly: a punishingly vague introduction, shockingly poor localization, and missing quality-of-life tools betray its post-Early Access status.

You'll like it if …

  • +You want your factory building to have a clear economic purpose.
  • +You enjoy the challenge of managing logistics against a hard deadline.
  • +A story-driven campaign is a welcome addition to your strategy games.

You'll dislike it if …

  • You expect the granular automation complexity of a game like Factorio.
  • Poorly explained systems in the opening hours are a dealbreaker.
  • A lack of quality-of-life features like blueprints will frustrate you.

  • Localization in several languages is exceptionally poor, appearing to be unedited machine translation.
